I didn't have any problems but it was hard to access my binders during class.
How did you feel about changing in the gym locker room?
I felt uncomfortable, I cannot describe it.
Tell me a time when you got in a bad experience with the non-academy student.
When I was walking to lunch one day, I saw two non-academy students hugging each other in the hallways. I also saw some other kids cursing at one another.
Who is your favorite teacher? Why is she/he your favorite teacher?
Mr. Sebek is my favorite teacher because he is a lot of fun.
On the last day of summer, what were some of the things you were worried about?
How my new life at QVMS would turn out.
Did you have any concerns about your locker, like jamming you finger, before you arrived here at QVMS?
No, I was okay with getting a locker.
How did you cope with social life when you came? Did you make a lot of new friends? If so, how?
When I first came here, I already had some friends. I made a lot of new friends here though by sitting with other people at lunch.
What subject do you find to be the hardest?
Spanish, as it is my third language now.
When you first came, was there a time when you felt helpless?
No, the teachers were all there to help me.
Did you find it hard to get around?
No, I had a map with me on the first day.
Define
Our student's main problem was the fact that our student was unable to go to his locker during class. in addition to this the student was also at a loss of time when going to his locker within the end of the passing period. Another problem was the fear of the non-academy student, in addition to this there was an air of "awkwardness in the locker room."
If this problem is solved, the impact on students will be great. The students will not have to beg for going to their locker to get forgotten items. Now hallway changes will be more efficient and students will have an easier way to access their locker.
Ideate
Pixel Suit- This suit pixelates the nether regions during changing time in the locker room, this helps cure awkwardness in the locker room. Live Binder- Online Binder Storage app so that student can access binder from anywhere. Academy Armor- Protects against all sights, smells and colorful language that is excreted from some non-academy students. This protects the student from the dangers of the outside world. Portal Locker- Locker that transports from real locker into small locker. Helps acquire materials in the locker which have been forgotten or left behind. Transparent Bracelet- Enables the student to be see through and walk through non-academy.
Prototype
Bonus: Our prototype works at a basic level because users can interact with the binders on the inside of the locker. Also, see video.
Feedback
Is there anything you would like to change about our product?
Besides just a smaller locker, I would like a high-tech portal. However, I know this isn't realistic, so for now, it's pretty good.
How do you think this product could influence other sixth graders who might be having locker problems?
It would be easier for them to go to class on time and get their stuff more easily than have to go to their locker and open it, wasting time, and then get tardy to class.
If you were the kid with the locker problems, what would you feel if "Santa" got this for you? Why?
I would be happy if they gave me this product because it's much easier than having to go to my locker and getting pushed around and such.
Do you think this product would help me in the future grades to come? Would it impact your coming years in middle school?
I think it would help me in seventh and eighth grade. This is because in those grades you have to carry more stuff and it's harder to get that from your locker.
If you had the product right now, would it impact your current schedule for the day?
It would be much easier than going to my locker and wasting time, so yeah.
Have you ever been tardy because of a locker problem? Would this product have saved you from having that tardy?
I have never been tardy, but I have been pretty close to getting one. I was going from lunch to my locker and my locker was jammed. By the time I had opened my locker and gotten my stuff from it, the bell had already rung and because Mrs. Priest saved me, I didn't get tardy. This product would have helped me greatly and I wouldn't have relied on Mrs. Priest.
*Note; Our student proclaimed that the product was near perfect and did not require any revisions. Due to this we did not make changes after presenting to the student.
Analysis
Describe at least 5 insights, epiphanies, re frames (big or little) you had about project. Please include what led you to these i.e. what fun stuff you did to uncover them?
We realized that actually making it work would be impossible, so we put as much effort as we could with the given materials to make the lockers realistic as possible. Obviously, the girls’ locker turned our better, but the boys did run into the problem of having a lack of tape to cover the larger locker with green. We realized that it would be much easier to just use one of our lockers while filming, so the larger locker that the boys created was not used. Even though we tried to make the lockers realistic, they still turned out rather simplistic. We had to do lots of video editing in order to make the effect of Eisha pulling out her binder from thin air, which was rather entertaining. It took us much longer to film than expected, but we think that it was worth it in the end.
How did you work as a team?
We started by splitting into 2 teams, one for the large locker, one for the portable locker portal. We worked fairly quickly, and didn’t have too many disagreements. We had some disagreements during the filming stage, but they were quickly resolved.
What was your best/worst team experience?
Our biggest disagreement was over the filming portion of our project. We had to constantly argue with each other on what to do and what parts to film. This was the worst part of our experience. The best part was seeing the final product and laughing at ourselves.
When was your team process strong?
Our team process was strong when we were working as split teams, as two people are in many cases more efficient than 4, as there are less people to argue with.
What would you do differently next time?
Next time, we would attempt to script the video instead of improvising it, as it would go much quicker and make filming easier.
